Introduction: Mother's day is really important...to mothers. In case you haven't caught onto that yet guys, mother's day is a big deal to almost every mother. Even the most phlegmatic, laid-back, understanding mothers expect be honored today with special attention. I think if we stop and think about it we can understand why. This woman sacrifices her time and attention 365 days out of the year for her family. She may often feel she's taken for granted, and frankly she is, and sometimes she may feel sorry for herself and frankly she may have reason to. I like the cartoon that shows a mother standing in a living room that is absolutely chaotic. Everything is in disarray, she's cradling a baby in one arm, another child is scribbling on the wall, the dog is chasing the cat, her husband has just walked into the door with his briefcase, he's bug-eyed at all of the chaos and the wife snarls, ''Every day you ask me what I do all day long. Today I didn't do it and here it is.''

The fifth commandment reads, ''Honor your father and your mother.'' To ''honor'' means to value, to show tribute and respect. That responsibility to show honor to your mother begins the day your born and really continues until the day you die. Jesus repeated and reinforced that commandment in his earthly ministry and he also exemplified it in his life. I want to look at a few excerpts from the life of Jesus and Mary, just from the gospel of Matthew, to show how Jesus honored his mother and what we can learn from his practice in that regard.

Mary was selected by GOD to be the mother of Jesus. Jesus' birth to HER in particular was foretold by the prophet Isaiah eight hundred years before he was actual ...
