INTRODUCTION: It takes the first seven beatitudes to prepare us for the eighth. Mt. 5:10-12 ''Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.''

ILLUS: Do you remember the parable of the Father, son and donkey. They were on their way to the village when some onlookers criticized them for walking while they had a perfectly good donkey to ride. So the father put his son on the donkey and they continued. Then some onlookers criticized the son for riding while he made his old father walk. So the son got off and the father got on the donkey. Then some onlookers criticized the father for making his son walk while he rode. So they both got on the donkey. Then some onlookers criticized them for overloading the donkey. So the final scene has the father and son CARRYING the donkey to the village. Moral of the story, you can't please all of the people all of the time - so don't even try. One of the most miserable things we can ever do is decide we can make everyone like us and keep everyone happy.
