Some of you have been through some real difficult times. And maybe you're there again right now. This quarantine has really thrown a monkey wrench into the plan you had for your life, for your family, for your finances, for your future. You may be feeling down, discouraged and disillusioned that things didn't work out according to your plan. The temptation in times like these is to pull away, to disconnect from people and even from God because deep down you feel forsaken.
God is a restorer! Today's word is a lesson from the life of Peter. Peter was one of Jesus' disciples. He was one of the original 12. You know Peter best as the disciple that denied Jesus - 3 times. There were many things that led up to that denial that we can learn from. I am going to show how God restored Peter, and He will do the same for you.
Peter's name was Simon and sometimes he was referred to as Simon Peter. The name Simon means ''heard.'' Have you ever been around people that just love to talk? They love to be heard. They even like to hear themselves talking. Peter's mouth is what got him in the most trouble. The name Peter means ''rock.'' There's a story of Jesus asking His disciples a question:
Matthew 16:15 He said to them, ''But who do you say that I am?'' 16 Simon Peter replied, ''You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.'' 17 And Jesus answered him, ''Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18 And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. (ESV)
Jesus saw a new creation in Peter, one who was connected and receiving revelation from God. Jesus knew it, He saw it in Peter, and He spoke to it. When we see Jesus for who He is, He tells us who we are. Peter knew that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God, and Jesus spoke to Peter who he was ...
