In the Book of Galatians, Paul is dealing with a people that have been saved by grace, and now are being tempted to add the law of Moses as an additional requirement.

Before the fall of man in the Garden, there was no need for the Law.

Adam walked with God personally. There was an incredible relationship that was initiated by God. Sin, however, fractured that relationship and the ability to relate was changed. How many realize that sin fractures relationships and that, because of the break, the relationship changes? Or that safe boundaries sometimes are needed?

And the first victim was the original relationship between God and man in the Garden.

19Why the Law then? It was added because of transgressions, having been ordained through angels by the agency of a mediator, until the seed would come to whom the promise had been made.


So the Law was established, to show the holiness of God, and His expectations of man. Yet there was a promise that this ''structure'' would be fulfilled in Jesus and a different kind of relationship would be possible.


Ezekiel 36:26-27 (ESV)
26And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.
27And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.

How many of you have been around legalistic people? I'm not talking about accountability or good leadership but actual legalism.

Legalistic people could be considered immature! That's right.

24Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.
25But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.
26For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
