What describes large numbers of young people today is ''Hostile to the church, friendly to Jesus Christ.'' Many detest establishment. They don't like formalism. They want authenticity. They don't mind you telling them some hard truth, if you truly believe it, and if you are living it. To many, Jesus holds a fascination they cannot easily escape.
I remember when I came to Christ. Although I was born and raised in a Christian denomination, I never knew Jesus. When I heard the good news at the age of 22, I accepted the message of Jesus and was born again. I did not join a church or convert from one religion to another. My heart was converted. It was not something that was done by me. It was done by Him. Although it was me that believed the Gospel, He saved me. He did it. As a child, I was taught in my church that your good works had to outweigh your bad deeds in order to have a shot at getting into heaven. When I learned that my salvation was not based on works but only by grace through faith in Jesus, it made me want more of more of Him. I committed my life to Him. He was so much more that I could have ever wished for. He is my all in all.
We did a survey on Facebook asking our audience to fill in the blank, ''Jesus is _____.'' Here are the results we got back:
- Jesus is LOVE OR LOVING 6
- Jesus is KING 4 (doesn't include Kanye's vote)
- Jesus is LORD 4
- Jesus is FORGIVING or FORGIVENESS 3
- Jesus is EVERYTHING or MY EVERYTHING 3
- Jesus is THE ONLY WAY or THE WAY 3
- Jesus is LIFE or MY LIFE 3
- Jesus is MY SAVIOR or MY SALVATION 2
- Jesus is MY ALL IN ALL 2 (includes my vote)
- Jesus is SAVIOR and LORD 2
- The rest had one vote each. Jesus is:
- MERCIFUL
- ALL POWERFUL
- MIRACLE WORKER
- MY REDEEMER
- MY HOLY SACRIFICE
