Series: Jesus Is ______

Genesis 1:1

In our series JESUS IS, last week we covered two major truths of Jesus. 1) Jesus is Savior, and 2) Jesus is Risen, but the Story of Jesus doesn't even stop at His resurrection. 40 days after His resurrection, Jesus ascended to heaven. The fact of His ascension to the right hand of the Father puts Jesus in the place of glory and honor, where He is worthy to be worshiped. The truth we want to cover today is one that distinguishes Christianity from all other religions. It is this:

Jesus is Lord

When we say Jesus is Lord, we are saying a whole lot. In many ways, this statement is very controversial. Where the controversy comes in is from the perspectives of people. If Jesus is viewed only as a man, then it is difficult for us to see Him as the LORD. Most people like Jesus to stay limited to just being a man. Because when we declare that JESUS IS LORD, we are saying that He reigns over everything. We are saying that He is Sovereign God, equal to God. We are saying that Jesus is exalted to the place of worship, and we are saying that Jesus is Master, so we have a choice to make Him personally the Master of our lives or not, and most people balk at the thought of turning their lives over to Him. Our human nature wants to keep us self on the throne. The GOOD NEWS is that Jesus is not a hard taskmaster. There is a peculiar verse in 1 Corinthians chapter 12 that says this: ''no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.'' When we come to Christ, we see things differently. The Holy Spirit comes to live in us and He draws us into a loving relationship with the Master.

Jesus is Sovereign God

In order to grapple with Jesus being Sovereign God, we must first understand that Jesus was always God. He was with the Father and the Spirit from the very beginning.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness ...
