Jonah 2:1-10
Today, we continue our series through the book of Jonah. I've entitled this series God's Relentless Grace because that's exactly what we see in this short, Old Testament book. We see God's grace to a wicked city, God's grace to a disobedient prophet, and God's grace to each and every person on the face of the earth. READ TEXT

*A little girl was talking to her teacher about whales. The teacher said it was physically impossible for a whale to swallow a human because even though it was a very large mammal its throat was very small. The little girl stated that Jonah was swallowed by a whale. Irritated, the teacher reiterated that a whale could not swallow a human; it was physically impossible. The little girl said, ''When I get to heaven I will ask Jonah.'' The teacher asked, ''What if Jonah went to hell?'' The little girl replied, ''then you ask him.''*
Those who believe in the God of the Bible will have little difficulty believing that such a miracle is possible. If the God of the Bible can raise up Jesus Christ from the dead, he can certainly cause a great monster of the deep to be alongside the ship when his prophet is thrown overboard and can cause it to swallow him.
Today, from Jonah 2:1-10, I want to talk about the subject, Man's Only Hope. Everyone places their hope in something. Some place their hope in science and look to its truths for meaning. Some place their hope in their own ingenuity or cleverness and look to that for meaning. Some look to their education or intellect for their hope and salvation. But ultimately all of these will find that there is no hope in the things that man alone can do. Mankind becomes hopeless and destitute.
