Intro/Attention

This morning, we continue our series through Psalm 23 entitled, God Is Enough. God is enough...to meet my needs, to give me rest, to guide my steps, to calm my fears, to heal my hurt, and to secure my future. God is enough! So, when we're finished with this series, my hope is that when you hear Psalm 23, it will remind you of the complete sufficiency of Jesus Christ. He is enough!

Today, I want you to look at Psalm 23:4 and recognize this truth: God is Enough...To Calm My Fears. READ Psalm 23:4; Psalm 23:1-6 The Shepherd Will guide us in past of righteousness, but those paths are not always easy. Jesus said, ''In this world you will have trouble.'' To stand for what is right will cost. The path to the peace of God, the righteousness of God, and the holiness of God will always lead through valleys of tribulation. It's through these valleys-hard times of struggle and difficulty-that God moves us to where he wants us to be.

*5-year old Johnny was in the kitchen as his mother made supper. She asked him to go into the pantry and get her a can of tomato soup, but he didn't want to go in alone. ''It's dark in there and I'm scared.'' She asked again, and he persisted. Finally she said, ''It's OK, Jesus will be in there with you.'' Johnny walked hesitantly to the door and slowly opened it. He peeked inside, saw it was dark, and started to leave when all at once an idea came, and he said: ''Jesus, if you're in there, would you hand me that can of tomato soup?''*

Psalm 23:4 deals with fears that we all face. It speaks of death, trouble, pain, loneliness, heartache, and danger. But surrounded by all these fears, David gives an answer: ''I will fear no evil'' This is the key for this message and this passage of Scripture; no fear! Why?
