I'd like to welcome you to the final week of The Generous Life! Now, I know some of you are probably relieved... some of you who aren't here and are watching online, watching on TV, or listening on the radio... right now... in the church parking lot... and I just want you to know... you can come back now... it's safe!
There are a lot of us who hate talking about money in church. It's uncomfortable. It's weird. It makes us feel guilty... and convicted... and if that's you, understand something: that's what God's Word does. It chips away at us, it moves us... and it reforms our perspective so that we can be more like Christ.
It's like a muscle that grows. It has to be stretched and pushed to the limits. It has to be broken down before it can be built up.
That's why I believe Jesus talked so much about money in the Scriptures. It's because He knew that money would always be the #1 thing that fights for our allegiance.
It's the number one thing we trust, cling to, and depend on... other than God. Therefore, He knew that the way we look at money must be broken down in order for us to be built back up.
So God drew a line in the sand and said in [Matthew 6:24], 24 ''No one can serve two masters, since either he will hate one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
God tells us that ultimately we have to choose which one we're going to love and pursue and trust.
Remember, Jesus came to be your #1. He came to be Lord. He came to be the number one priority in your life. Jesus didn't die on the cross so that He could make your top 10! He came to be #1.
And what we've seen over these last couple weeks is that, your giving will reflect if Jesus is your #1 or not. We've seen that giving isn't necessarily a financial issue, but rather, it's a HEART issue.
