Hello Waypoint, especially those of you who are part of Waypoint, Iola. I want to greet you. We want you to know that we love you. And we are so thrilled that God has called you to be a part of our Waypoint family. You’re watching this at home on a Sunday morning rather than right here at Waypoint Church because we’ve had to make the difficult decision to cancel both of our Sunday morning services due to the spread of COVID-19. This was a tremendously difficult decision, and agonizing for me because I’d rather do just about anything than cancel worship but we felt like this was the wisest and most prudent decision we could make after a lot of conversation and a lot of prayer together.
One of the things the Holy Spirit keeps reminding me is that my responsibility as your pastor and shepherd is to lead, feed, and protect the flock as the shepherd God has called me to be. And so that’s what I want to do. I want to lead well in confusing times. I want to feed the truth of God’s Word and we’ll do that today. And I want to protect as much as I possibly can, even when we don’t know all the dangers that are around us. So just be assured that the church council as well as the pastoral council together, we’re going to do everything we can to make wise decisions that will both promote and protect the health, spiritual and physical, of everyone who’s a part of Waypoint Church. I want you to know that we have not made this decision out of fear or out of panic. In fact, it was rooted in two very basic thoughts.
One, we want to follow the counsel of our elected government officials. They have told us very clearly that we want to limit the amount of people who are gathering together, and the size of our congregation makes it a higher probability that when we gather together someone has been exposed to the COVID-19 virus.
