It’s an Emergency (1 of 4)
Series: Prayer

John 15:5
You know how when you get to know someone, whether it's your spouse or a good friend, that after a while you come to see that they say things that are normally not part of your language. Well, my wife Gerri sometimes has her own language and only those closest to her pick up on it. One of the things that she says, when something is an Emergency, she says, ''It's an ER.'' She'll text me with just those two letters ''ER'' or ''Call me, ER.'' I'll call her and she'll say something like, ''we need cough medicine for Abby'' or ''we need milk'' or ''hurry up back home, I need your help before the company comes over.'' Gerri will say things like, ''if you're married, date night is not a luxury, it's an ER.''
We are in a brand-new series on Prayer (bring up graphic), which I would like to call: PRAY-ER! Or ''Pray, It's an Emergency!'' Because Prayer in our lives is not a ''maybe I will'' or a ''If I have time,'' no, it is an ER! Prayer is an emergency. There are so many things that are on the brink of emerging in our lives. And they could turn out good or not so good, it all depends upon us getting to the ER.
Most people wait for an emergency in their lives to pray. We call upon God in times of desperation. People in their human nature will exhaust every other resource before they put their faith in God and call upon His name. We all have come to learn that our conditions don't have to be ''desperate'' in order for us to cry out to God, but there is power in a heart that is desperate for God. It is the kind of heart that says, ''I can't make it on my own. I need you Lord.'' Preacher and author Leonard Ravenhill said, ''God answers desperate prayer.'' I had a good friend in New York who when you asked him how he was doing would respond by saying, ''desperate for God.'' Desperation is the soil that bears the fruit of answered prayer.
