But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing greatness of the power may be of God and not from ourselves; we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken, struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. For we who live are constantly being delivered over to death for Jesus' sake, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death works in us, but life in you.
Message Truth: Confidence does not come from happy circumstances. Confidence comes from God's resources that are independent of our external circumstances.
Introduction: A young man complained to his father about the difficulty he was having with a math class he was taking. "I simply don't understand math, the numbers just don't add up. I have a test tomorrow and I am going to fail." His father protested, "You have to be positive about life." "Fine", replied the boy. "I'm positive I'm going to fail."
Far too many believers are programmed for failure. They have a negative spirit and no confidence as they face the challenges and realities of life. Your faith is only as strong as the object of your faith. In today's lesson from Truths That Transform we are going to learn something about real faith and the power of God for life today.
CONFIDENCE STARTS WITH UNDERSTANDING
Some of us do not have confidence in the Christian life because of some flawed thinking. It's much like learning to operate a computer. First basic rule: Garbage in = garbage out. We have to get some truth in our minds and hearts if we are ever going to be able to cope with life.
