More Truth (3 of 12)
Series: Less is More
Joey Rodgers
James 1:19-27
We're in a series in James about how to have a faith that's lean and mean so we won't be fooled into thinking we have a genuine walk w/ God when we're religious pretenders.
In week 1, James told us real faith turns to God and not from God when we encounter trials bidding us to come under the care and guidance of God. In week 2, he told us that genuine faith turns from sin to God instead of from God to sin in times of temptation. Today, he's going to tell us that when we encounter God's Word, if we have authentic faith we'll apply His truth but if we have artificial faith we will deny it.
The Christian life isn't about performing a set of rules and regulations or being a good person it is about relationship. It's about knowing God, hearing His voice, and obeying His leading. This means the key to the following Christ is hearing and heeding God's voice. We must tune our ears to hear Him speak. The surest way God speaks is through His Word and by His Spirit - they never contradict one another. In fact, God's truth resonates w/ the H.S. to convict, convince, and convert us to live according to His Word. The Psalmist tells us that God's Word is our source of life.
Logos and Rhema - Peter Simmons - Psalm 42:12
The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. Ps. 19:7-11
As we come to James' words, we discover his intent was to underscore the relevance and necessity of God's Word to insure we have a gen ...
