How many of you remember Fearless Felix? Felix is the guy who made the death-defying jump out of a balloon more than 24 miles above the earth? It is said that on his 9 min. decent, he hit speeds of 844 mph shattering the sound barrier (crazy). Over the years, Felix has made 2,500+ jumps, but told reporters this was his last - saying ''After doing something like this, there's not much left to try.''
?In listening to his interview, I was struck by what he was thinking about before he jumped. He said, ''When you stand there on top of the world, it is quite humbling. You don't think about breaking records or gaining scientific data. The only thing you think about is coming back alive. Sometimes we have to get really high to see how small we are.''

?Most of us will never to do what he did, nor want to - yet we need to learn the same lesson. When need to see how big God is, so we can be humbled before him. It's my prayer today we'll go up high to see how small we are before God. 

James has often been called the N.T. book of wisdom. This idea is earned b/c of the text we're going to look at today. But as you will see, wisdom is just one more mechanism to help us determine if our faith is authentic or artificial.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such ''wisdom'' does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
