I remember one afternoon in 2004... it had been a long day and I came home exhausted. My wife greeted me at the door and followed me up the stairs and told me, ''You're going to be a DAD! We're having a BABY!''
At first I was shocked... then my state of shock transitioned into a state of excitement and joy and with tears in my eyes, I was overwhelmed with emotion! We were both jumping around the room like we were little kids... beyond excited that we were about to become parents for the very first time!
Well, we immediately started talking about how we were going to tell our families. And that's a tough deal, because you can't tell one set of parents before the other set of parents and it's the same with the brothers and sisters.
Audra and I pride ourselves on being pretty creative people most of the time and this was one of those opportunities where we had to come up with something good.
So we planned a dinner; just a normal dinner at our new house. The not-so normal part of the dinner was that Audra's parents had to fly 1,000 miles to be there and this was also one of the first times our families were together since we had been married. But neither one of them had a clue what we were about to drop on them... they just thought they were coming to see our new house and hang out. So the dinner date was all set.
Audra and I then went out and bought these really expensive Silver baby rattles. They were these decorative collectible rattles that opened up and you could put a picture in them and we figured it would be a great keepsake for our Parents to commemorate the night they heard they were going to be grandparents...
So the plan was that when we brought dinner out, we were going to put the rattles on their plates and then surprise them with the big announcem ...
