Fear is real. It’s something that we all experience; in fact, doctors have identified over 700 known phobias or fears. For example:

Acrophobia (high places), Claustrophobia (enclosed areas), Ergophobia (work), Demophobia (crowds), Gamophobia (marriage), Phobophobia (fear of fear)… and according to The People’s Almanac, the number one fear in the US is Glossophobia (public speaking).

Fear is something we all deal with no matter who you are or what stage of life you may be in:

Children (being alone), Adolescents (rejection), Young Adults (failure), Older Adults (death or life without meaning)… and it’s true that when fear consumes us and control us, we become defeated and unable to live the victorious life we should be living through Christ.

In fact, in [Romans 8:15a], Paul equates our unhealthy fears to slavery. “For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear.”

God says—I haven’t given you a spirit that makes you feel like a slave to your fear. If that’s the way you feel—understand—that didn’t come from Me!

I love what the Psalmist said in [Psalm 34:4]— “I sought the LORD, and He answered me and rescued me from all my fears.”

That’s what God wants to do—He wants to rescue us… He wants to deliver us from our FEARS! So with that being said, the question is… “What are we so afraid of?” Seriously, what are the fears that consume us and control us?

When you look at the statistics, it’s pretty clear what most Americans fear.

I’ve already told you that the #1 fear is PUBLIC SPEAKING… other favorite fears include the fear of HEIGHTS, the fear of BUGS, the fear of FINANCIAL PROBLEMS, the fear of WATER, the fear of DEATH… and so on…

But to me, the real entertaining thing about this subject is the fact that most of the time we fear the things that are least likely to kill us…
