James 1:17-27
We are currently walking through the book of James in a series called FAITH WORKS. I want to thank you for being here and making our time together a priority each week as we dig into God's Word.
It's important! This book was written a long time ago, but it is relevant to our lives today. It's necessary today. The Word is powerful and we're going to see James echo that in James chapter one this morning.
If you're just joining us... let me catch you up real quick. James is the author of this letter and when he wrote it, he was a religious leader and pastor in Jerusalem. But that really wasn't his claim to fame.
James was also Jesus' little brother. They grew up together... They went to school together... they played with each other... they most likely shared a bedroom.... They went to the synagogue together and learned together. They studied the word together... Can you imagine that?
James spent every waking moment of his childhood with Jesus... watching Jesus, copying Jesus, and trying to be like Jesus.
However, the Bible tells us that later in his life, James chose not to be a disciple of Christ. He didn't believe initially... but he became a believer after Jesus resurrected from the dead. He then became a follower under the ministry of the Apostle Paul and now, as he writes, he is writing to encourage the early church... these early Christians are scattering all across the nation because of persecution, and James is the one that's ministering to them.
So far, he's warned these believers of the trials they will experience in life and the temptation's they will face in life. He's writing them with this message that says, ''Keep going. Keep growing. And act like God's people.''
We'll pick up this morning where we left off last week. Let's begin reading in verse 17 of chapter one.
