For the past several weeks, we've been walking through the book of James on Sunday mornings in a series entitled, FAITH WORKS.

So far in this study, we've seen James, the little brother of Jesus, writing to early believers that are scattering and scared. They are being persecuted because of their faith... and James is writing these believers to encourage them and to warn them. So far we've seen James warn them about trials and temptations that they would experience as they lived their lives following Christ.

Last week James talked about the difference between being a person that just HEARS the word and a person that DOES what the word says to do.

Jesus said if you just hear the word and don't do what the word says, you're a foolish person. That's exactly what James said at the end of chapter 1 as well.

This morning, we're going to be kicking off chapter 2, and we're going to keep that in mind. We aren't going to just read what this says... or hear what it says... We're going to DO what it says!

[James 2:1-4] My brothers and sisters, do not show favoritism as you hold on to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. 2 For if someone comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and dressed in fine clothes, and a poor person dressed in filthy clothes also comes in, 3 if you look with favor on the one wearing the fine clothes and say, ''Sit here in a good place,'' and yet you say to the poor person, ''Stand over there,'' or ''Sit here on the floor by my footstool,'' 4 haven't you made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

So right here, James is talking about ''seats.'' He's saying there are good seats... and there are bad seats.
