James 2:14-26
Let me ask you something? What do you smell like?
I ask that because all of us have an aroma... some of us stink. Some smell good. But when you think about it... Our aroma is the byproduct of our activity. The way you smell tells you a lot about who you are and where you've been.
For instance, if you smell like B.O. and Axe Body Spray... it's a pretty good sign that you're a middle school boy. (Trust me, I have one.) When you work out, you sweat, and when you sweat, you stink.
A person's aroma is the result of their activity.
If I decide to surprise my wife and cook dinner... it would be impossible for me to keep it a secret if I was grilling steaks in the backyard... because as soon as I walk back into the house, everyone would immediately know where I had been. You know what I'm talking about? The smell of hickory smoke and charcoal is overwhelming, right?!?
Your aroma is the byproduct of your activity... and your aroma tells the truth about who you are and where you've been.
Steve Morgan has become one of my dear friends. Several years ago, Steve lost his vision and is now completely blind. But that hasn't stopped Steve from living his life, in fact, I tell people all the time-Steve can see better than most people I know with 2 working eyes.
It's pretty amazing to see him work. I'll walk up to him unannounced and he will greet me and say, ''Hello, Pastor.'' At first it freaked me out, but then one day he told me-''I could smell you coming.'' (I'm still not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing)
I guess I understand that to some degree.
My Dad has been wearing the same cologne my entire life. Paul Sabastian. I can be anywhere, anytime-and if I smell that cologne, I automatically think about my Dad.
What is the AROMA that identifies who you are?
Some of us here today might smell like...
