Series: James: Faith Works

James 5:16-18
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect. 17 Elijah was a human being as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the land. 18 Then he prayed again, and the sky gave rain and the land produced its fruit.
As you can see, as James continues writing the early church, he continues his focus on prayer. In fact, 6 times in 6 verses, James tells the church to pray.
(v. 13) He should pray... (v. 14) He should call for the elders of the church, and they are to pray over him... (v. 15) mentions, 'The prayer of faith'... (v. 16) pray for one another... prayer of a righteous person... (v. 17) He prayed earnestly...
You know what James is telling us here? He's saying...
Never underestimate the power of prayer!
He says... Pray like Elijah! Pray bold prayers... believing God for the seemingly impossible. But he also says, pray specific prayers according to the will of God. What are those specific prayers he tells us to pray?
CONFESS YOUR SINS
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed.
Many times, the power of our prayer is directly linked to our confession.
He says, ''Confess your sins to each other.'' What does that supposed to mean? That word 'confess' means 'to consent.' It's a call to agree with and admit your faults without making excuses.
James says... When we confess our faults instead of conceal our faults, it's powerful. In fact, he said it's so powerful, that confession will lead to restoration... reconciliation... healing.
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.
