Are You Faithful to This Covenant? (3 of 7)
Series: Malachi: A Study of Big Questions
Jordan Easley
Malachi 2:10-16
This is my favorite part of the week right here... When we get together in God's house... as God's church... and we study God's word! I believe He has a word for all of us today!
If you have your Bibles, please turn with me to the book of Malachi. We'll be in the second chapter this morning as we continue in the series we're calling, ''A Study of Big Questions.''
So far in this study, we've seen the Prophet Malachi-''God's messenger,'' introduce us to the imagery of this book. Here it is: God is seen as a GOOD FATHER-and also in the picture, we see that this Good Father has some spoiled, rotten, entitled Kids. Those kids are the children of Israel.
If you'll remember, God began this conversation by telling His kids, ''I have loved you.'' Love is who God is... and Love is the foundation for this entire conversation.
So He starts out with love... but now God is condemning His kids... He's correcting them and rebuking them... Why? Because He loves them.
It's hard to understand that your Father loves you when you're the one he's correcting, isn't it? I remember right before my Dad used to whoop me, he'd tell me, ''I'm doing this because I... love you.'' ...I thought that was the craziest thing I'd ever heard. I'd think... ''Man, you sure do have a funny way of showing that love!''
You say, ''If you love someone, why would you discipline them? Why would you correct them?'' Answer-because you love them! If your kid is doing cartwheels through traffic... do you rebuke them or let them get hit?
This morning, The Father is going to have a straight-forward conversation with His kids because He doesn't want them to get hit... If you have your Bible, we'll begin reading this conversation, in Malachi 2:10.
(10) Don't all of us have one Father? Didn't one God create us?
Right here, Malachi reminds us that we all come from the ...
