Unshakable Identity (1 of 6)
Series: Unshakable

Daniel 1

Today we are kicking off a new series in the book of Daniel called Unshakable. - The first half of the book of Daniel helps us see how we can live unshakable lives of faith and obedience in the midst of unsteady, even difficult times. - In the book of Daniel, Daniel and his friends find themselves as aliens and strangers in a new place called Babylon. No longer at home with God's people, they are besieged and abducted and taken to Babylon ... an idolatrous place with an idolatrous king. Their lives are completely upended - shook to the core, they face pressure to assimilate into the new ungodly culture, to worship false gods, to leave behind their identity as God's people.

Here we are in 2020. Believers all over the world live in cultures that are influenced by that cultures idols. We are all, no matter where we live, strangers and aliens in this world if we are followers of Christ.

In our own culture .... we find ourselves many times surrounded by people who are opposed to our faith and values. We find a pressure in this world to assimilate and become like those around us, to blend in instead of standing out. There is pressure, temptation, to be anything other than a Christ following, Bible believing, gospel advancing Christian. ''How then shall we live?''- to quote Francis Chaeffer's book. How do we live Unshakable lives in this unsteady world, in a culture that is undergoing cultural earthquake after earth quake.

Believers face a very real temptation in the world... that is to FORGET WHO WE ARE. We see in today's passage Daniel and his 3 friends... new who they were, whose they were. They lived out their identity as God's people.

If you don't know Christ today... you learn today that God is at work, even in our crazy world, and you will learn how you can have an unshakable identity even in a shifting world.
