This world is full of kingdoms, by Kingdoms I mean nations, governments... with rulers, kings, presidents. The kingdoms of this world can be powerful. - Obviously there is a hidden kingdom of darkness at work as well. Satan tries to insert his influence wherever he can. But in the midst of all this the unshakable Kingdom of God is advancing and one day Jesus Christ will return to rule and reign forever. Until then the Kingdom advances through Christ ruling and reigning in the hearts of His people.
But there is a tension we always face... the kingdoms of this world can be intimidating... alluring... tempting. They can intimidate us into not living for the Kingdom of God. They can allure us to put our hope in them instead of God. They can tempt us to settle for earthly influence and power at the expense of our higher loyalty.
Christians are always having to decide... which King will get my ultimate allegiance? Which Kingdom will I let influence me the most? Which will have my heart? Will I buckle before the Kingdoms of the world and fail to be a faithful witness of the Kingdom of God?
The truth is all of want to be a part of something bigger than us, something eternal, something great. We instinctively know the kingdoms of this world are imperfect, flawed, at times corrupt. We know they can't last... history and experience tell us that. There is but one Kingdom that is eternal, that is perfect, flawless, incorruptible. It is God's Kingdom.
