God is Good (3 of 4)
Series: When You Pray

Matthew 6:11-15
Happy Father's Day! I am grateful for men who love Jesus and their families. Thank you for being with God's people today worshipping Jesus. I am grateful for men who serve, pray, give, teach... thank you for serving North Park. Today we are talking about prayer... and here on Father's Day it's important to note how Jesus tell us to pray. We have seen the last couple of weeks that he tells us to pray to ''our Father in heaven.'' - Their is no better Father than God. Men, if you want a good example to look to on how to father your children... look to God. He loves, provides, disciplines, protects... God takes care of His children. We saw last week that our Father is GREAT... this week we see that He is GOOD. The Father is ABLE AND WILLING to help this morning. He invites us to approach Him with eager expectation and faith because He's a our great and good Father.
Illus.- . I'm reminded of a story I recently heard about Alexander the Great- He was asked by one of his generals if he would pay for the generals daughters wedding, because he didn't have the money. He obliged and sent the general to his financial caretaker. When the man in charge of the money was asked how much he needed... the general asked for a ridiculous amount of money, an offensive amount you may say. The finance advisor wouldn't give an answer without consulting Alexander, so he goes to him and basically says you won't believe what this guy asked for. When told... Alexander said ''give it to him.'' He said you don't understand... this man has paid me an incredible compliment. He believes I'm both rich and generous.'' - How much should we pray to God like we know that He is both great and good, able and willing.
I read recently where GK Chesterton said, he had never doubted God's existence but he had doubted God's goodness. He went on to say he no longer doubted God's goodness, for God had nothing to prove He had sh ...
