Train Up (1 of 6)
Series: Sound Bites for Parents

Proverbs 22:6
A man was in a store w/ a screaming baby softly saying, ''Don't cry George. You're okay. There. There. Don't get excited. Be calm.'' A lady watching says, ''I want to commend for your patience in trying to keep George quiet.'' He said, ''I'm George.''

- If I'm building something, then all the pieces are mine.
- If it looks just like mine - it's mine.
- If I saw it first - it's mine.
- If you're playing w/ something and put it down - it's mine.
- If it is broken - it's yours

What does this verse mean? You might be surprise to learn that the root word of train up in Hebrew was used to describe the palate or roof of the mouth. Soon after birth, a Hebrew mid-wife would dip her fingers in a paste made of honey/dates and rub it on the gums of the newborn baby to create thirst to initiate the baby's feeding instinct.
?In like manner, in training up a child, our primary objective is to create a sense of thirst in them for the right things - more specifically - a thirst for the things of God.
Now I recognize that we all want to raise respectful, self-suff ...
