Ephesians 6:4
This AM we're going to finish our series based on Pr. 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.
train up refers to the roof of the mouth. A Hebrew mid-wife would dip her fingers in a honey/dates paste and rub it on the gums of the newborn to initiate the baby's feeding instinct.
Solomon was teaching us that a parent's job is to create a sense of thirst in their children for right and Godly things.
Meaning our primary job as parents isn't to raise kids who are successful by the world's standards, but to raise up kids who know, serve, honor, and submit to God.
You shall love the Lord your God w/ all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. These words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. Deuteronomy 6:5-7
Priority 1 - Get God in the right place in your life.
Priority 2 - Diligently invest the Jesus in you into your children so that they love God more than you love Him.
How do we TRAIN up our children? Using the acrostic T.R.A.I.N.S. - we've been looking at (6) key items needed to raise children who know, serve, and honor Him.
TIME - our children need both focused quality/quantity time from us to learn the necessary investments for life.
RESPONISIBILTY - in a world where entitlements are in surplus and everyone else is to blame for our plight in life - teaching our kids to accept responsibility for their actions and circumstances is paramount.
ACCEPTANCE - acceptance is unconditionally embracing your child for the uniqueness of who he or she is. It is never based on what our children do or don't do - on their success or failures - abilities or inabilities - it is embracing them for who they are and who God created the ...
