Life is full of inspections.
Tests in school are really forms of inspection.
Drug tests and entrance exams are types of inspection.
A parent may inspect a child's room or a teenager's phone.
If you join the military, there will be plenty of inspections.
In the High School band we had ''Section Inspection.''
At student camp, an adult may inspect a room.
Life is full of inspections. But according to this section of 1 Corinthians 3, inspections don't end...even when you die.
Romans 14:10 - ''For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.''
Romans 14:12 - ''So then each one will give an account of himself to God.''
2 Corinthians 5:10 - ''For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ to be recompensed for deeds done in the flesh whether they be good or bad.''
1. The comparison that must be examined (10-11)
Like the Lord Jesus, Paul is a master teacher and a master illustrator. Here he talks about the life, death, and judgment of a believer and he compares it to the construction of a new home.
If you've ever built a home you know there's a process involved. There's a foundation that must be laid and there's a building that must be constructed. But before you occupy that house, the building inspector will have someone come and check the construction. Before you can enjoy the fruit of your labor there's going to be an inspection.
In the same way, Paul teaches that the Christian life is a building project. The foundation has been laid. The building is being built. But we'd better build it with the awareness that the strictest of inspectors will check the work before we can enjoy the fruit of our life's labor.
A. The base is our Savior
In Matthew 7 we are reminded about the wise and the foolish builder.
