I can't say that Peaches and Herb were inspired back in the late 70's. But there are a lot of churches that are experiencing fusses and fights that would do well to BE UNITED and to SEE UNITED.

The first century Corinthian assembly was indeed a messed-up church and Paul continues to give them straight-up truth. And as chapter 3 draws to a close, Paul wraps up some instructions about one of their primary problems. They were divided.

I'm thankful for the unity we have in this church. But the best time to preach about unity is when you are already have it. And the WORST time to preach about division is when you DO have IT.

Paul did not have that option. The Corinthians were divided and they needed a word of instruction on how to SEE UNITED.

I have titled this sermon SEE UNITED because it seems as if Paul believes there DI-VISION is actually a VISION problem.

There are some things they are not seeing correctly.
The word ''division'' really means ''double vision.''
Two different people...two different groups...see the SAME THING in two DIFFERENT ways. Now even though our church is united, you may be facing division in some other area of life. Pay attention to these principles.

1. A correct view of your church (16)

When I preach in other places, I try to refer to Emmanuel as ''the church of my membership.'' Verses 16-17 are certainly true for the individual believer. But this text is ultimately about the corporate body.

The words ''you'' or ''ye'' in these verses are plural.
