Our 19th lesson brings us to one of the most practical and needful lessons on the Christian home. It's the sensitive and controversial subject of marital intimacy. But rest assured we are going to deal Biblically with the subject, which means we will speak truthfully and graciously.
In my ministry, there are few subjects that create more difficulty and reveal more dysfunction in a marriage than the area of sexuality. So today in this message I'm calling for a home makeover. I want us to do a major renovation of the marriage bedrooms represented by the people in this service.
But rather than focusing on building a bedroom fit for a king or a queen, I want us to build a bedroom fit for a servant. As we begin, I want to give you a working statement that will undergird all of today's teaching. According to this text,
The Biblical command for marriage involves a loving and mutually satisfying physical relationship based on a servant's spirit.
The Biblical - This is not my opinion (black ink on white paper)
Command - It's not God's suggestion
For marriage - If you're not married this does not apply to you yet except to say...if this is not what you want...stay single.
Involves - There is much more to marriage than the physical. And yet as relatively little time it consumes, it is one of the major topics and themes of the Bible.
Loving - Marital love is based on affection, not manipulation
Mutually satisfying - That phrase is SPECIFIC enough to require both spouses to be satisfied but it is BROAD enough to account for the ebb and flow of life's seasons
Physical relationship - This sermon will use a lot of synonyms and euphemisms but this sermon is about the sexual relationship between a husband and his wife.
Based on a servant's spirit - This message is not primarily about what God wants you to do with your body. T ...
