Our 21st lesson continues to bring us face to face with matters related to marriage and marital status. But today, we deal with one of the most neglected subjects in that discussion. Singles.
I want to ask all the married people to stand. As our children, teens, single adults, and widowers and widows remain seated, I want you to look around at the number of singles in our church.
They've listened to plenty of sermons on marriage and parenting.
And rightly so, as the majority of people will one day be married.
But the unmarried population of our church is still significant.
And every single ONE is significant to God and His church.
But even if you are married...one day...you will most likely be single again.
At our previous church they had a Sunday School class called ''Single Again.'' While I always thought the title was awkward, the class was designed for the unique challenges of those who, by death or divorce, were ''single again.''
So, if you are single, this sermon is for you. And even if you are married, this sermon is still for you. In fact, since we don't know when death will come, you could be ''single again'' before the end of the month...week...day. So, I want to talk to single and married people alike, about being, ''Saved, Single, and Satisfied.''
I came across two poems recently about singleness. One was written by a man to explain why he never married. The other was penned by a lady to explain her life of singleness. The man wrote:
Of all the girls that ever I knew
I never saw one I thought would do
I wanted a wife that was nice and neat,
That was all up-to-date and had really small feet.
I wanted a wife that was loving and kind
And that hadn't too much an independent mind
I wanted a wife that could cook and could sew
and wasn't eternally out on the go
I wanted a wife that w ...
