We all love an underdog. That's why on homecoming weekend we secretly pull for the East Carolina Polytechnic Institute of Basket Weaving to knock off the top 5 team.
There's something inside each of us that pulls for the little guy.
Every time it's David vs Goliath, we're quietly pulling for Dave.
We love the story of the ''Cinderella Team'' in NCAA basketball.
But there is one ''underdog'' situation in which the little guy will NEVER win. It doesn't matter how far out in front he may seem. That is, when a mere mortal man is fighting against God.
When it's ''Man versus Wild'' the man may win.
When it's ''One man against the world'' the man may win.
And even occasionally when it's ''Man versus woman...''
But when you are going up against God, let me give you some good advice:
You're not gonna win this one.
1. Learn from this word of example (1-11)
2x he uses the word ''example.''
The Greek word is TYPOS = Type or pattern
It's been said that a fool will not learn from his mistakes, a smart man will learn from his mistakes, a wise man will learn from someone else's mistakes. Paul wants us to wise up and learn from someone else's mistakes.
Two dog owners were talking and one asked the other, ''What did you give your dog when he had the mange last month?'' The other said, ''I fed him motor oil.'' Three days later, he said, ''I gave my dog motor oil and he died.'' The other said, ''Don't blame me. My dog died too.''
That man should have asked a few more questions and learned from his friend's mistake. We should learn from the mistakes of these ancient believers.
