Today's lesson is one of the most controversial in the book. Indeed, it's one of the most controversial in the Bible. But it's not controversial because its meaning is unclear.
It's controversial because it's meaning is crystal clear.
While there is certainly room for honest debate about some of the nuances of this passage, the central thrust of the text is as plain as black ink on white paper.
Men and women are equal. But men and women are different. By God's design and decree, men and women have different role assignments in the home and in the church.
We live in a day that seeks to blur the lines of distinction between male and female.
By way of introduction, let me share a few things about our culture:
A few weeks ago, the NY Times ran an article about a transgender couple who gave birth to a little girl. The occasion was said to be groundbreaking as a ''pregnant man'' gave birth. The writer stated her desire to show how similar this transgender pregnancy was to other couples who have had children.
Actually, the entire thing was EXACTLY like other pregnant couples. You see, the pregnant man in the story isn't a man at all. She is a biological woman who claims to be a man. And the baby's father is a biological man. So...a biological man and a biological woman having a baby together is not ''similar'' to other couples. It's identical to other couples.
This precious baby girl got here the old-fashioned way. The same way everyone except Adam, Eve, and Jesus got here.
Christian Post recently reported that 40 high schools in Great Britain have banned females from wearing skirts to school. All students must wear pants due to the fear that transgender and gender fluid students may feel embarrassed if they don't know whether or not to wear pants or a skirt.
