1 Corinthians 15:1-2
Even though all of the Bible is equally inspired, some chapters of the Bible seem to stand as great pillars that support the entire book. 1 Corinthians 15 is such a chapter.
Genesis 1 is a brilliant chapter, describing the masterpiece of God's creation. Psalm 119 is a glorious piece of inspired poetry, attesting to the perfection and power of the Word of God.
John 1 is saturated with the truth of the incarnation. And Romans 8 is perhaps the greatest Biblical description of justification and the Sovereignty of God in salvation.
In fact, R.G. Lee once described the 8th chapter of Romans like this. He said the 66 books of the Bible are like a jewelry box with 66 pieces of exquisite jewelry. He said the book of Romans was like a favorite piece of jewelry, the wedding ring. And he said Romans 8 was the diamond atop that ring.
If that's a good analogy, and I think it is, 1 Corinthians 15 may very well be the sparkle in that diamond. 58 verses devoted to one central doctrine, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
British philosopher John Locke once wrote that, ''Our Savior's resurrection is truly of great importance in Christianity, so great that His being or not being the Messiah stands or falls with it.''
For the next several lessons we are going to slow down and drill down into this chapter and study the greatest truth that ever came from the heart of God to the ear of man. Namely, that Jesus lived, died, was buried, and has been bodily raised from the dead. And HIS resurrection means that we too can have life eternal. As we just sang, Christ in power resurrected as we will be when He comes.
The night that Jesus was born, Luke tells us it was a night of good news! Luke 2:10-11 declares, Then the angel said to them, ''Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you ...
