I Corinthians 15:29-34
First Corinthians 15 is all about the resurrection of Jesus Christ and its impact on the bodies and souls of His people. Since the resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith it stands to reason it would be a primary target of Satan's attack. And that attack was in full force in Corinth.
Frank Sinatra once said, ''You only go around once. But if you play your cards right, once is enough.''
John Lennon said, ''Imagine there's no heaven. It's easy if you try. No hell below us, above us only sky.''
This seems to be the mindset that was creeping into the Corinthian church. The idea was that ''this life is all there is.''
Meanwhile, the Bible teaches something completely opposite. As John MacArthur writes, ''Belief in the resurrection, the truth that this life is only a prelude to the life to come for those who trust in Jesus Christ, (that belief) could not be obliterated by ridicule, prison, torture, or even death. No fear or dread in this life can quench the hope and joy of an assured life to come.''
Under Divine inspiration, the Apostle Paul agrees and teaches that there is life after the grave. And he continues to ask rhetorical questions. His trademark sarcasm is on display as he prods them and prompts them to think about 3 things about their CURRENT lives that make no sense if there is no life beyond this one.
We've all heard about the 50 year old man who was having chest pain and went with his wife to see the heart doctor. After the examination, the doctor sent the man out into the waiting room and talked to the wife. ''Your husband needs peace and quiet, lots of love, and no conflict or he will die.'' The man asked, ''What did he say?'' She said, ''He said you're gonna die!''
