The Power of One - Contend for the Faith

The ability of (1) person (group) to make a difference must never be underestimated. This is no more evident than in the amazing, true story of PFC Desmond Doss. If you saw the movie Hacksaw Ridge, then you're familiar w/ his heroism.
If you're not familiar w/ his story, PFC Doss served in the bloodiest battle in the Pacific theater in WWII w/ nothing to protect himself save his faith in God. As a conscientious cooperator and medic, Doss refused to carry a weapon as he was determined to save life instead of taking it. And yet neither his battalion nor the enemy valued his conviction.
In April 1945, Doss's battalion engaged in a brutal battle on the Maeda Escarpment atop a 400 ft. cliff better known as Hacksaw Ridge. The ridge was a critical mission in the Battle of Okinawa - only it was fortified w/ a deadly network of Japanese machine gun nests, tunnels, and booby traps. When the mission went south and his battalion was ordered to retreat, Doss refused to leave his fallen comrades behind. And despite facing heavy fire, he repeatedly ran alone into the kill zone, to pull the wounded to the cliff's edge before singlehandedly lowering them to safety. Each time he saved a life, he prayed, ''Lord, please help me get one more.'' And by the end of the night, he rescued b/w 75 to100 men. The power of one to make a difference.
When I think of Doss's story of contending for his faith and for his battalion, I'm reminded a little book near the end of the NT - Jude - where God calls us to contend for our faith.
Jude, along w/ (3) other one chapter N.T. writing (Philemon, 2/3 John) are often overlooked - and yet each of them holds a powerful lesson and commission for God's people. So over the next few weeks, we're going to see what God has for us in these (4) important writings.
In this urgent letter, Jude writes to expose the false teachers and teachings that had infiltrated the church - a ...
