Together for the Gospel
Mike Stone
Ephesians 4:32
Several years ago, 4 highly prominent conservative pastors and laeders began a pastor's conference called, ''Together for the Gospel.'' Al Mohler, CJ Mahaney, Ligon Duncan, and Mark Dever stated that the purpose of the conference (and now the movement it has spawned) was simple:
We are brothers in Christ united in one great cause - to stand together for the gospel...We are convinced that the gospel of Jesus Christ has been misrepresented, misunderstood, and marginalized...among many who claim the name of Christ.''
While their focus was on CHURCHES coming together for the sake of the gospel, I am convinced that are other relational units that need to come together for the sake of the gospel.
Families who name the name of the Lord Jesus who need to come together for the gospel lest the gospel itself be misrepresented, misunderstood, and marginalized.
Employers and employees, parents and children, brothers and sisters, and perhaps Christians in the same church, all of who name the name of the Lord Jesus and need to come together for the gospel lest the gospel be misrepresented, misunderstood, and marginalized.
And the glue that can bring us all together and bind us all together for the gospel is in this one power-packed verse: And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. (Ephesians 4:32)
In this text, we see the mandate of God for His followers. But as importantly, I want us to see that there are gospel implications of God's people NOT obeying this commandment.
Let me repeat, I want us to see the implications for and the impact on the gospel of Jesus Christ when we, as professing Christians...in the home...in the church...in the community...do not treat one another in a manner consistent with today's text.
