Jim Cruppey worked with the Strategic Leadership Solutions. These meet with
rising young executives all across the country--Fortune 500 companies. Jim said he
found a very significant thing. In meeting with these young executives, 3545, who
havw been tapped by their companies as young men on the rise, men w-ith pmse,
men with talent, men with commitment, men with dedication, he found one basic
concern that these men had that goes through every group. These young men with all
this potential and talent, in significant places in their companies and businesses, are
frustrated at one point. They say, "We have a song in our hearts, and our biggest
concern is that we may come to the end of our lives, and the song may never be sung."
That is the biggest concern of young executives in America today. Not how much
money they make or high up the pole they go, but they have a song to sing and it may
not be sung.
Suppose you are 70, or 80, or 90 and you are given 30 minutes to evaluate your
life and speak to a group of people and say I have lived 70 years; I have lived 80 years;
I have lived 90 years and I have accomplished this purpose in my life. Could you do it?
What would you say about your purpose in your life?
I am sure some of you are familiar with this scenario. A man picks up a little
manila envelope in a bat rack by the dugout in a deserted baseball stadium. He opens
it up and a little tape comes out. It is cued at a certain place and some black and white
pictures fall out of the envelope. He turns on the tape recorder and a voice says,
"Good morning, Mr. Phelps." The man with the turban is the Omar of Lasagne. His
leaders have been threatened by a radical group that are destabilizing the area of
