A Portrait of the Church in Exile (3 of 9)
Series: Life in Exile

1 Peter 1:22-2:12
If you are a Christian this morning you are living life in exile. These Christians in 1 Peter faced though sorts of things and Peter opened up by reminding them of their salvation, their living hope, and the inexpressible joy they could have even amidst trials because of their salvation.
Last week we talked about living in light of our salvation. We are called to live holy lives, to be different. Our thinking, behaving, attitude toward God are all shaped by the new relationship we have with him. We are to be holy as He is holy.
This week we begin to see that flesh out even more. How do we the church, the body of believers, relate to one another, to God, the world while we are in exile. How is the church to be the church? What’s the difference in the church and the world? If you don’t know Christ what is the church all about? If you do know Christ, what are we to be all about? How do we flesh out holy lives together?
What we we see this morning is as God’s people in this world our values have been reoriented by Christ. We are now apart of a big family called the church, and we are God’s people, and that should be evident... if we are to live in a way that pleases God, and live in away that influences the world around us... we need to look like the portrait we see in 1 Peter.
