Illus.- Kristi and my Wedding day- A great marriage is not built on a day- It was a rainy day, and we had an outdoor wedding. Rain at an outdoor wedding is not desirable and is a good way way give a bride an ulcer. It turned out to be a perfect May day, the rain stopped just before the wedding, so that when we got married, the rain had cooled things off, and the birds were literally chirping. It was perfect. I love my wife and I love our marriage. Marriage is awesome. Nearly 6 years later we have 2 kids and live in a different state, things have changed. Here's the deal, Kristi and I are not perfect people. We are not sinless people. And no matter how beautiful the day is when you get married, and how perfect or imperfect that day goes, a marriage is not built on a perfect ceremony. It's work, process,growth. Kristi and I are two different people. We have things we both enjoy, and things that only she or only I enjoy. We are different. She likes to jog, I like to not jog. She likes to eat healthy. I like to eat stuff that tastes good. We have similarities but we are different. No two people are alike. And marriage is two people, two people with sinful tendencies, becoming one. So its work. It's patience, and marriage one of God's great means of spiritual growth/sanctification in you your life.
We live in a culture where love is celebrated and not understood and not well practiced.
Our culture is full of hookups and breakups. Sex is traded like a commodity. In the midst of this here believers stand as exiles in this world. Living out our faith in a way as we saw last week that should attract others to the Gospel.

One of the things this world needs from Christ followers is healthy marriages.In 1 Peter we have a text about husbands and wives and it flows in the context of how we live in this world as witnesses.
