1 Peter 4:1-11
In the hear and now suffering is real. Persecution is always a possibility. But this world is coming to and end... Christ will return. What does it look like to live in light of these realities... the reality of suffering... and the reality of the last days. That's what we will see this morning... it's life in light of 2 realities many tend to not think about in our culture... suffering and the end. What we will see this morning is this means breaking with sin and living in God-Centered community with other believers.
Bottom Line: The call to follow Christ is a call to complete surrender and it means a divorce and a marriage. -- It's a departure from worldly living and a uniting to the body of Christ.--- So we need to arm ourselves for suffering showing a break with sin and live in light of Christ's return by being the church.

When you become a Christ-follower you become a new person, with a new identity, and a new family. That new reality should be expressed in how we live our lives.
In v.1-6 Peter calls us to live in light of what Christ has done in His FIRST ADVENT. He came and suffered, realize you will suffer... He was victorious, you will be victorious... so live in light of that. This effects your lifestyle and your relationship with the world. In. v.7-11 he is calling us to live in light of the SECOND ADVENT. The end is near... Christ could return soon, be ready. This section shows the effect of your life in the church. My point is that what Peter is doing is calling us to live in light of the Gospel. He's calling us to be armed and ready. Armed for suffering so that we can live life of victory and ready for the end so that we can be the church to the glory of God.
Armed for suffering... showing we have broken with sin.
