Have you ever made a promise? Of course, you have... but what did it mean to you or to the person you promised? But if we're being honest, the idea of a promise has fallen on hard times! Whether it is b/w friends, spouses, or God - promises get tossed to the side far too often for no good reason.

By definition, a promise is a sworn oath to assure someone you will fulfill a particular thing you've committed to do. You'll fulfill your pledge/guarantee/contract - COVENANT!

This AM, we're starting a study on what might be one of the most critical, yet overlooked, teachings in the Christian life - the unbreakable covenant promise of God. Now this is no ordinary study. In fact, I'm quite nervous, more anxious than normal b/c I some understanding of the weight this teaching.

To be fair, this isn't a teaching we hear much about from pulpits/lecterns - and I think it is b/c too many teachers are terrified by a topic so vast and daunting. Truth is, covenant touches everything in Scripture from beginning to end, and is like a string you pull and pull unraveling more/more - and just when you think you're near the end, you discover you're just getting started. Covenant is central but can be confounding.

So how did I get myself into this study? Two reasons. First, my wife has been studying covenant for yrs and has been begging me to teach on this critical truth. And second, it is central to my conviction of the essentials of the Christian life.

I believe there are (3) critical disciplines/skills a person must learn if they're to experience/live a healthy, vibrant, thriving Christian life: (1) We've got to learn how to HEAR and distinguish the voice of God among the other voices in the world - My sheep hear my voice and follow me.
