Ephesians 1:17-23

1. Prayer is such an important part of our Christian life. The weakness and ineffectiveness of a Christian life can be traced to a poor prayer-life. We must take time to pray. We must spend time in prayer. Like the air we breathe, that is essential to physical life; prayer is the air of the spiritual life.
2. In verse 16 Paul tells the believers at Ephesus, that he prays for them. Then beginning in verse 17, he tells them how he prays for them and that for which he prays. It is a prayer for ''wisdom and revelation'' (Vs. 17), for ''understanding being enlightened'' (Vs. 18), and that they ''may know'' (Vs. 18). He is praying that they will come to an understanding and knowledge of what God wants for them.
3. As we look at Paul's prayer for the believers at Ephesus, I want us to see his prayer as a prayer that we should make as our own. The Holy Spirit has put his prayer in His Word so we would pray the same prayer and understand the same things.
4. What does God want us to understand and know? Let's answer that question by noticing Paul's prayer. First, he prays:

1. We read in verse 17, ''That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.'' He prays that they would have a greater knowledge of God. He is praying that they might know God, who He is!
