Esther 2: 1 - 23
I - The Special Pageant (1 - 23)
II - The Symbolical Portrait (7, 11)
III - The Sovereign Plan
This sermon contains a fully alliterated outline, with sub-points.
Theme: ''When God works behind the scenes to accomplish his will''
In 1957, Mary Leona Gage was crowned Miss USA, but it didn't take long before officials found out she had been lying about a few key things.
They found out not only was she married, but also she had two children - both of these things were against pageant rules. They also found out that she was 18 years old, not 21 as she'd told them.
She was stripped of her title and her prizes but the story turned out to be a little more complicated than initially thought. She had gotten married at 14 and sought out modeling and pageants to escape the ''oppression'' of her marriage, she later told The Baltimore Sun.
What followed after very public de-crowning was, according to her, multiple suicide attempts, drug addiction, accusations of child abuse, and the loss of custody of her children. She only spoke out publicly about the scandal years later in 2005 to The Sun and how it affected the rest of her life.
She died in 2010.
In our sermon today, we will look at the story of Esther; she comes onto the biblical landscape by winning a beauty pageant. Queen Vashti had upset the king and he banished her from ever seeing him again. Vashti is forever out of the picture, but Esther is ushered in as if she was supposed to be there.
How many times have you questioned why things were happening a specific way in your life? Queen Vashti is pushed off the scene, while Esther, a Jewish Maiden is pulled onto the scene. Isn't it amazing how tow people that had nothing in common and most likely had never even spoken to each other would somehow be intertwined by the providence of God?
In our story we will see that the king is going to host a ...
