Your Giving Matters
Scott Maze
Luke 7: 36-38

I Know Generosity Matters. In a world dominated by what it owns and who owns what, I want examine the biblical teaching concerning our material possessions. Because your giving matters. This morning I want to look with you on ''Three Questions About Giving.''

I want to answer several questions concerning giving this morning: How Should I Give to God?, Why Should I Give to God? and What Should I Give to God?'' Turn in your Bibles to Luke 7 and bookmark Luke 10 with me, if you will.

Next Thursday is Valentine's Day and many of you like me will get flowers and a card for the one you love. Imagine me on the front porch of my house on Thursday afternoon with two dozen roses in my hand. I ring the doorbell, ''DING-DONG!'' She answers the door only to see her husband with these two dozen yellow roses in his hand (his wife's favorite). Then, I hand them to wife, Traci and she says, ''Oh, Scott, they're so beautiful! Why did you get so many?'' I say, ''Because I am supposed to.'' What do you think her reaction is going to be? Or, would you rather have the second scenario? Imagine me again, on the same front porch of my house on next Thursday afternoon with two dozen roses in my hand. I ring the doorbell, ''DING-DONG!'' She answers the door only to see her husband with these two dozen yellow roses in his hand (his wife's favorite). Then, I hand them to wife, Traci and she says, ''Oh, Scott, they're so beautiful! Why did you get so many?'' And I say, ''I couldn't help myself! You're just so beautiful and you handle everything so well that I just couldn't help myself!'' Which do you think she would like better? That's the kind of giving that is characteristic of Christianity.
