Life Is full of jingles and slogans that we can easily memorize. The business world has discovered this and has made widespread use of it in commercials. I would like for us to think about a little jingle today that we can memorize and carry with us through life. It is short and profound. ''life is short, death is sure, sin is the cause, but Christ is the cure.''
1.LIFE IS SHORT.
The Bible describes the shortness of life in metaphors and analogies.
--Life is like a shadow. 1 Chronicles 29:15 ''For we are strangers before thee, as were all of our fathers: our days on the earth shall be as a shadow, and there is none abiding.''
-Psalm 23:4 ''Yea though I walked through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil.'' Shadows gather at the cradle and thicken at the tomb. However, where there is a shadow, there is some light.
-Life is like a weaver's shuttle. Job 7:6 ''My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle and are spent without hope.''
-Life is like a hurrying messenger. Job 9:25 ''Now my days are swifter than a post; they flee away, they see no good.'' Life hastens by like a man carrying a message in a hurry.
-Life is like a handbreadth in extent. Psalm 39:5 ''Behold, thou has made my days as a handbreadth; and my age is nothing before thee; verily every man at his best state is vanity.''
-Life is like a weaver's web. Isaiah 38:12 ''My dwelling is removed and is carried away from me like a shepherd's tent: I have rolled up like a weaver, my life he will cut me off from the loom; from day even unto night wilt thou make an end of me.''
-Life is like a vanishing vapor. Ja,es 4:14 What is your life? It is even as a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.''
No matter how you look at it, life is short! David said to Jonathan as Saul was chasing him, ''I am but one step from death.'' We all are. We're just one heartbeat away.
