Matthew 8:5-13
Martin Luther, who was a Catholic priest, became convinced through studying the Bible that the only way a person could be forgiven of their sins was by faith in what Christ had done on the cross. The key verse on which he based his conviction was Romans 1:17 The just shall live by faith.
It became the rallying cry of the Reformation and is still the truth on which our salvation stands. We are saved by Christ alone, through faith alone, by God's grace alone, not anything we do.

We need to believe in the grace of God because we live in a sinful world in which bad things happen not just to good people but everyone. People get sick, experience disappointment, lose their jobs, develop some disease, suffer the lose of their loved ones.
Faith in Christ gives us hope because he is sovereign over all, even in our hardships, disappointments and suffering.
FAITH DEMONSTRATED :5-7 Capernaum - was an important city on the north-west shore of the Sea of Galilee in the time of Christ. There was a Roman military post there. Jesus made it his headquarters in Galilee and it was even called ''his city'' (9:1).
Centurion - comes from the Latin word meaning one hundred. A centurion was a Roman officer in command of 100 soldiers. In the Roman army, the office of centurion was the highest rank an ordinary soldier could achieve. Promotion to the office of centurion was usually based on experience and knowledge.
The centurion typically earned his rank the hard way, and it was a position of prestige and honor, commanding the respect of others. He maintained law and order of the Romans over the people.
