John 4:5-26
People are looking for meaning in their life through - acceptance, purpose, relationships, success..They seek and try different things hoping that one will bring them meaning for their life.
Professor Zane Hodges (Dallas Seminary) in The Hungry Inherit wrote, ''Love, success, wealth, fame - these were but a few of the countless springs at which men had stooped to drink, only to rise from them to fine that they offered no lasting inward satisfaction, no enduring personal fulfillment . . .''
Jesus accepted people for who they were. Some were outcasts of society because of a disease such as leprosy, others because of their present occupation such as tax collectors and others because of their race such as Samaritans.
When Jesus was criticized by the religious leaders for eating with Zacchaeus, who was a tax collector he told them in Luke 19:10 ''The Son of Man came to seek and to save those who were lost.''
John Gill - ''Christ looked him up and called him by his grace.'' That is what Christ did throughout the gospels and he does to each one of us. We are lost in our sins and looking for acceptance by people or success, but true acceptance and contentment is only found in Jesus Christ who forgives us of our sins.
