Years ago a survey was done of why people miss work. The most common reasons were: headaches followed by joint pains, then stomach pains and then backaches. All of which are the result of sin which brought a curse on the earth that includes those common physical illnesses as well as disease and sickness.

What was once beautiful and perfect became broken and marred. All disease and sickness originated when sin entered the world. But not all disease and sickness are a result of an individual's sin. There are times when we have to accept that God is working through our disease or sickness for his glory and our good.

BELIEF STATED :1-2 Jesus was leaving the temple (7:59) when he saw a blind man who was there begging because it was the only way to support himself. He was not responsible for his condition or being punished for it.

:2 Who sinned - the Jews believed that suffering was the result of sin. The greater the sinner the greater a person suffered. Job 4:7 Remember, who that was innocent ever perished?

In the time of Jesus people believed in what they called the ''Law of retribution,'' which asserted that the righteous were blessed because of their righteousness and the wicked were cursed because of their wickedness. It was their way of trying to explain the suffering and tragedies of life because they believed that all suffering was God's divine judgment on man's sin.

From our perspective some sins seem worst than others because they hurt other people more than other sins such as: adultery, stealing, lying to a court so an innocent person is punished.

This man - believed you could sin while you were in your mother's womb and therefore, he must have committed some great sin for God to cause him be born blind and never able to see.
