Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:1-6
Gen. 2:24: For this reason a man will leave his
father and mother and be united to his wife, and
they will become one flesh.
Matt. 19:1-6: When Jesus had finished saying
these things, He left Galilee and went into the
regions of Judea to the other side of the Jordan;
Large crowds followed Him, and He healed them
there.
Some Pharisees came to test Him. They asked: "Is
it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for any
and every reason?"
"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the
beginning the Creator made them male and female,
and said, 'FOR THIS REASON A MAN WILL LEAVE HIS
FATHER AND MOTHER AND BE UNITED TO HIS WIFE; AND
THE TWO WILL BECOME ONE FLESH'?
"So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore,
what God has joined together, let man not
separate."
Recently I was listening to the news as they were talking about the
forest fires in Ocala this past week. One young woman made a very
interesting comment when she was being interviewed. She said that
their home had been completely destroyed. The newscaster asked how
she felt when this was happening. She said, "Well, it was a strange
thing, because I was having to decide what to leave. The fire was so
close that we suddenly had to make decisions about our possessions.
What do you take and what do you leave when disaster is that close?"
Then, she made this observation: "I then realized that the most
important of all was our family, and we all got out."
The most important thing--our family. Real women stand by their man.
That was a popular country song several years ago, and some of you
remember it. It had, I think, a tremendous thrust to it, and it goes
back to what the Bible said a long time ago: stand by your husband,
or your wife.
