Merry Christmas to all of you this evening. We are so glad you’re here with us tonight and we hope you enjoy every part of this Christmas celebration.

Some of you are here this evening with family because it’s part of their Christmas celebration but Christianity isn’t your thing. You’re hoping this whole thing isn’t too boring and you can get on with the fun parts of the holiday. We are really honored you are here with us tonight. You can relax because I am only moderately boring . Would you give me 10 minutes of your undivided attention because for the next few minutes, I want you to focus on Mary. Would it surprise you to learn that Mary had doubts like you do this evening. Yes, Mary has enjoyed high status throughout the centuries, she was the subject of gossip in her day. I want you to consider the process Mary went through to believe the news of Jesus’ arrival at the first Christmas. Because she is model for all of us in how we are to process and believe to Jesus’ coming into our lives as well.

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Mary. 28 And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” 29 But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. 30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”
